Abseil for Cahoots

When it comes to fundraising, we take the full plunge at Cahoots – literally!

For several years now, Cahoots has been a beneficiary charity in the Central Park Plunge, and we’re doing it again in 2023!

Not sure what the Plunge is? Well, it’s essentially our biggest fundraising event of the year.

Run by Zenith Events, the Central Park Plunge is an opportunity for everyday people (just like you) to abseil 130 metres and 33 floors down Perth’s tallest building in Central Park, and to get there, they just have to fundraise for a chosen charity.

Okay, but why on Earth would anyone want to hang off the side of a building!? There are loads of reasons why the Plunge is an amazing experience, not just for charity partners like Cahoots, but also for the plunging participants and teams.

It’s an excellent personal challenge, an amazing experience (imagine the view from up there!), a really cool photo op, a wild thrill-seeking encounter, and just a really fun way to raise funds for an organisation that is making a huge difference in the community.

Previous Plunger Karen McDonough

Just take it from some of our previous plungers. Karen McDonough will be a three-time plunger this year and loves the plunge because it’s a great way for her to conquer her fear of heights.

“I am literally absolutely petrified of heights! – but I have a body that is able to do things, that others can’t so I want to be able to help others in a way that makes me step outside of my comfort zone,” she said.

She explains that she found out about the Plunge via social media but has since become a massive fan of the work that Cahoots does.

“To be honest, the first year, it was something that just came up on my Facebook and I was like that looks kind of cool. Then as I’ve gotten to know Cahoots, the values, standards, and ethos – I’ve come to love the work you do,” she said.

Karen hopes others take the Plunge for Cahoots both for the experience and the cause.

“I’d encourage everyone who is able to, take the plunge. It’s an experience that will change the way you look at the [building!] Donate because people are doing something scary, for multiple reasons and it is going towards an amazing cause”, she said.

“The first year I did it, I was given a letter that was written by someone who was directly impacted by my decision to plunge. It still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.”

TV Star Luke Toki!

In 2020, Cahoots was also represented by Channel 10’s Australian Survivor contestant Luke Toki, who had an amazing time taking the Plunge and fell in love with Cahoots along the way.

“I was able to see firsthand at the Plunge the positive impact the charity has. It takes a lot of good people to make such an event like this and I feel it will [be] something I talk about for years to come,” he said.

“Anytime I can find time for charities like Cahoots, it’s always my pleasure. They do amazing things.

“All the volunteers, I have a lot of respect for and to see such a good turnout, so super happy and that I survived hahaha.”

CEO David Armstrong

Cahoots CEO, David Armstrong explains that the Central Park Plunge will support so many children and families living with a disability in WA.

“Participation in the Central Park Plunge will help support Cahoots’ life-enhancing camps and adventures for more than 300 families and young people living with a disability every year,” he said.

“By being a Cahoots fundraiser, you are part of something truly special, a collective community of like-minded people making a difference in your local community.

“Our team is here for all our plungers every step of the way, helping, supporting, fundraising, reaching their target, cheering and celebrating their success.”

Whether you want to take the plunge for yourself, rope a team of coworkers into the event (pun intended), or donate to support the amazing work done by Cahoots, get all the information you need on the Cahoots website.

Help us, help others

No matter how small, your contribution goes towards helping Cahoots lower the costs for families using our services. Whilst we are NDIS funded, there is often a shortfall between the funding and the cost of our activities, so your donations mean families can still send their loved ones to our camps and programs.

For many, Cahoots is a life changing experience for both the participants who grow, learn and enjoy themselves, but it also provides respite to parents and families from the demands of full time care. Anything you can spare is greatly appreciated.
