Watch Karen Jump Out of a Perfectly Good Plane for a Cause!
One of Cahoots’ long-time legends, Karen McDonough is challenging herself for another year in a row, all in the name of fundraising.
After completing the Central Park Plunge for three consecutive years, Karen has decided to up the ante when it comes to raising funds for her favourite charity, and is pushing her limits high with a skydiving challenge this October!
We sat down with Karen to find out exactly why skydiving is the next challenge on her list, how she feels about it all, and how you can support her.
Karen explains that she has always been excited about the idea of skydiving, but barriers were preventing her until now.
“I had a personal trainer years ago who was a skydiving instructor and he made it just sound so incredibly amazing,” she said.
“I looked into it over the years but it had a weight requirement which I just could never get down to.
“Now I am finally there I get to do it this year. However every year I aim to raise funds for a charity, so I decided since I am finally getting to tick something of the bucket list why not fundraise at the same time?!”
Despite her fear of heights, Karen is excited to tick skydiving of her bucketlist.
“I am not even kidding you when I say I am literally petrified of heights. Plus knowing I have to jump out of airborne plane?!” She said.
“I am however super excited to finally tick something off the bucket list whilst knowing I am getting healthier at the same time.
“I think what I am most scared about is just the initial ‘oh my heck I have to jump.’”
As a long-term Cahoots supporter it made sense for Karen to raise funds for young people in WA living with a disability again.
Karen describes how her mum worked in the disability sector while she was growing up and her mum’s experience was super inspiring.
“My Mum worked in the disability sector for a while and I loved seeing her face when she would come home and tell us about the people she worked with. It was like this light just illuminated out of her,” she said.
“I feel I took on a bit of her personality and I enjoy helping people who might not be otherwise able to do things.
“I believe I have a little bit of a gift for fundraising so why not use my gifts/talents to help other people to fully embrace the fun times!”
While jumping out of a perfectly good plane might sound insane to some, to thrill seekers like Karen, it’s the ultimate experience, and an incredible way to raise money for charity.
